FCS College Football Ratings & Strength of Schedule

2023 Week 15 · through Saturday, December 9

Season

Week

How this week's numbers compare

Power (0 = average team): #1 +30.8 · #10 +12.9 · middle −0.1
SOS (higher is harder): hardest 56.6 · #10 46.2 · middle 33.2 · easiest 9.5
SOR (lower is better): #1 <0.1% · #25 50%

Power is in points: a +20 team would be favored by about 20 over an average FCS team on a neutral field, and by 10 over a +10 team. SOS, SOR, and SOV are measured against a #25-level team: one as strong as the 25th-best team in these ratings usually is at season's end (+9.0 points). That comes from these ratings, not the poll. An SOS of 50 means a #25-level team would lose about half of these games; above 50, the opponents were, on average, better than that.

What these columns mean

#: Rank in the column you sorted by (strength of record unless you pick another). "—" means too few FCS games to rank.
vs FCS: Record against FCS teams. These are the only games any number here counts.
All games: Record in every game, including opponents outside FCS. For reference only.
SOR: Strength of record: how often a #25-level team would do at least this well against this exact schedule. Lower is harder to achieve.
Power: Points better than an average FCS team on a neutral field. The difference between two teams is the expected margin.
SOS: Strength of schedule, 0–100: on average, how often a #25-level team would lose each of these games. Higher is harder.
SOS rank: Rank by SOS. Teams need 3 FCS games to be ranked.
SOV: Strength of victory: SOS counting only the games the team won.
Record SOS: NCAA RPI-style schedule strength from records only: 2/3 opponents' win % plus 1/3 their opponents' win %.

Only games between two FCS teams count. Method v1 · 625 FCS games · run e0eadc6afb98
