1. Introduction
Redshirt Sports (“we”, “us”) publishes college sports news and analysis at redshirtsports.com.
This policy explains what information we collect on that site, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to redshirtsports.com and to email you send us about the site. It does not apply to other sites we link to. Those sites have their own policies.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
2. Information we collect
Readers. We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, email, or payment details just because you read an article.
Analytics. We use PostHog to understand how the site is used. PostHog’s usual setup stores a random identifier in your browser so repeat visits can be counted as the same browser, not as a named person. With that, PostHog receives:
- pages you view and actions on those pages, such as clicks
- a random identifier and a session identifier
- technical details such as browser, device type, referring page, and IP address
- approximate location derived from the IP address
PostHog is provided by PostHog, Inc. Data is stored in the United States, or in the European Union if we select EU hosting. PostHog processes this data for us and does not sell it. We have turned off PostHog features that send this data to third-party AI services, and we have turned off PostHog training its own models on our data, including anonymized data. Their policy is at posthog.com/privacy.
Until we finish moving off it, we also use Plausible Analytics for aggregate page counts. Plausible does not use cookies and does not identify you. Its policy is at plausible.io/data-policy. We will remove this sentence when Plausible is turned off.
We do not turn on session replay, and we do not attach your name or email to an analytics profile.
Hosting. Our host and content network may process technical logs, such as IP address, browser type, and the page requested, so the site can load and so they can block abuse. We do not use those logs to advertise to you.
Email. If you email us, we keep the message, your email address, and whatever you include, so we can reply. That includes pitches from contributors and notes about partnerships or advertising. We do not add you to a mailing list unless you ask.
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The site is written for a general audience, not for children.
3. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- publish and operate the site
- see which stories are read and whether the site works
- keep the site secure
- reply to email
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
4. Who we share it with
We share analytics with PostHog, and with Plausible until that tool is removed, only so they can provide the measurement described above. We share hosting logs with the companies that serve the site, only so they can do that work. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the site and our readers.
5. Cookies
PostHog’s usual setup stores a first-party cookie named like ph_<project>_posthog, plus data in the browser’s local storage. The cookie holds the random identifier and the session identifier. It is not an advertising cookie, and other sites cannot read it. It lasts up to a year.
Plausible does not set a cookie.
You can block cookies in your browser. The site will still load. We may not be able to tell a return visit from a new one.
If you are in a place that requires consent before this kind of cookie, we will ask before PostHog sets it.
6. How long we keep it
PostHog keeps event data for the period set in our project, and we delete or expire it when we no longer need it to understand readership. Email we receive is kept only as long as we need it to handle the request and our ordinary records.
7. Your choices
You can email us to ask what we have, to correct it, or to ask us to delete it. For a reader, that is usually the random analytics identifier and an email thread, if you wrote to us. Tell us the rough time you visited, or the email address you used, so we can find it.
Residents of California and other US states with privacy laws, and people in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, can ask for access, correction, or deletion, and can object to certain uses. We will not discriminate against you for asking. We will verify the request and respond within the time the law requires.
To make a request, email contact@redshirtsports.com.
8. Security
We use ordinary safeguards for a small publishing site, including the protections our host and PostHog provide. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
9. Changes
If we add accounts, a newsletter, advertising cookies, or session replay, we will update this page and change the date at the top before we do. For a significant change, we will also note it on the site.
