Villanova intercepted Cameron Edge at the goal line with 2:45 left and still lost. A false start and a sack turned that takeaway into a punt. Edge needed six plays and 56 yards. He scored from two yards out with 36 seconds left, and Dominic LeBlanc's 47-yard field goal to tie it came up short as time expired.
Morgan State is 4-1 for the first time since 2009. The Bears did it on the road against a program that reached the FCS semifinals last year and opened this season at No. 9 in our FCS Top 25.
Villanova still reached the Morgan State 30 after the score. "We gave up one play that put them in field-goal range that I was a little upset about," Damon Wilson said. "The man above had our back today."
Edge was 31 of 40 for 444 yards and three touchdowns, with one interception, and he ran for two more scores on 14 yards. Those 444 yards are the second-most in Morgan State history, behind LeJominick Washington's 515 against North Carolina A&T in 2001.
The touchdown passes were a 45-yarder to Keith Jenkins Jr., a 19-yarder to Malachi Bryant before halftime, and a 64-yarder to Joseph Towler on the snap after Villanova had taken its first lead, 28-24. On the winning drive, Justin Perry's 38-yard catch put the Bears at the 13. Perry finished with five catches for 152 yards, long of 79. Jenkins had eight catches for 87 yards and that touchdown.
"Today we were efficient," Edge said. "I think a lot of guys touched the ball."
Wilson measured the win by who was across the line. "It's a Top 25 team," he said. "It's a team that was in the semifinals a year ago. It's a historic program that has national championships under its belt." Villanova was 12-3 in 2025 and lost the national semifinal to Illinois State, 30-14. The Wildcats are now 2-4, 1-2 in the Patriot League, and 0-3 at home. Pat McQuaide was 22 of 29 for 266 yards and an interception. Isaiah Ragland scored on runs of 2, 13, and 22 yards. Ja'briel Mace added scores from 1 and 52.
Morgan State had 521 yards, 444 through the air and 77 on the ground. Center Daniel Casillas Jr. had the line that fit. "We showed up, we got the recognition, and we backed it up."
Jenkins already had the next Saturday circled. Morgan State hosts Robert Morris at noon on Oct. 10 at Hughes Stadium. "We gotta give back to our alums," he said. "Go out and get another dub." Villanova plays at Fordham at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 17.
