The quarterback position sees a competition between Houston transfer Zeon Chriss-Gremillion and Kadin Semonza. Chriss-Gremillion started 13 games at Louisiana in 2023-24 and is a good athlete with a strong arm. Semonza started 14 games at Ball State in 2023-24. He can spin it too.
The running back room returns experience in Jamauri McClure and Maurice Turner. Turner won the starting job before an injury derailed his season. McClure made the most of things and was big down the stretch last season. The additions of DJ Dugar Jr. (Oklahoma State), Johnnie Daniels (Mississippi State), and Jaylin Lucas (Florida State) make this a very deep unit.
The wide receiver room returns experience in Anthony Brown-Stevens, Garrett Mmahat, and Oliver Mitchell Jr. Watch out for tight end Ty Thompson. The additions of Gabe Daniels (Syracuse), Destyn Hill (LSU), Bredell Richardson (UCF), are huge for this unit.
The offensive line room returns experience in John Bock II, Colin O’Carroll, Reese Baker, Elijah Baker, and Darion Reed. The additions of Ryan Mickow (Boston College), Gavin Marks (Mercer), Riley Rushing (D2 Mars Hill), and Robbie Pizzolato (Nicholls) provide plenty of depth.
The defensive line room returns experience in Gerrod Henderson, Derrick Shepard Jr., Georgan Guidry, and Armondous Cooley. The additions of Reshad Sterling (Houston) and Ed Smith IV (South Alabama) provide quality playmakers to the front three of this defense.
The linebacker room returns production in Dickson Agu, Chris Rodgers, Jah’rie Garner, and Makai Williams. The additions of Jordan McAllister (New Hampshire) and Dalton Hughes (South Alabama) make a deep room even deeper. McAllister will be the backfield often.
The secondary returns experience in TJ Smith, E’Zaiah Shine, LJ Green, Kevin Adams III, Jack Tchienchou (All-AAC), and Joshua Moore. The additions of Justin Agu (Louisville), Kajuan Banks (South Florida), Macho Stevenson (Texas Tech), and Anthony Rogers (Nicholls) provide significant depth.
The kicking role will belong to Ohio State transfer Jackson Courville, who had a great two years at Ball State (2023-24). Punting duties will see a competition where true freshman Brooks Moore may win the job.
Will Hall was a questionable hire nationally, but he did a fantastic job building a staff and keeping continuity on this roster. Quarterback play will be key, and it is a question mark. Returning to a fifth straight American Conference Championship Title game is certainly possible.
