The quarterback position clearly belongs to Arch Manning. He had unrealistic expectations to live up to last season and still performed amazingly well. He does and says everything right, while also prepping like an NFL quarterback. He will only expand on his 3,163 yards, 26 touchdowns, and seven interceptions from last season.
The running back room is loaded with talent. Hollywood Smothers (NC State) and Raleek Brown (Arizona State) provide a ton for this offense. Each were first team all-conference last season. Combine them with true freshman Derrek Cooper and redshirt freshmen Michael Terry and James Simon and you have a scary unit.
The wide receiver room returns experience in Emmett Mosley, Ryan Wingo, and Daylan McCutcheon. The additions of Sterling Berkhalter (Wake Forest), Cam Coleman (Auburn), true freshman Jermaine Bishop Jr., and tight end Michael Masunas (Michigan State) will all play big roles. Especially Cam Coleman.
The offensive line room returns experience in Connor Robertson, Brandon Baker, Trevor Goosby (All-SEC), and Jaydon Chatman. The additions of Laurence Seymore (Western Kentucky, All-CUSA), Melvin Siani (Wake Forest), Jonte Newman (Texas A&M), Paris Patterson Jr. (SMU), and Dylan Sikorski (Oregon State) helps add to the nucleus of this unit.
The defensive line room returns experience in Colin Simmons (12 sacks, All-American), Colton Vasek, Hero Kanu, Muraad Watson, Alex January, Justus Terry, Lance Jackson, Zina Umeozulu, and Brad Spence. The additions of Zion Williams (LSU), Ian Geffrard (Arkansas), and 5-star true freshman Richard Wesley add to this attacking defense.
The linebacker room returns some experience in Ty’Anthony Smith but will need transfers and newcomers to emerge quickly. Markus Boswell (Akron), Justin Cryer (Florida State), Rasheem Biles (Pittsburgh), Darius Snow (Michigan State), and true freshman Tyler Atkinson should do just that. This should be a talented, attacking group.
The secondary will see the corners play more press-man instead of off coverage under new Defensive Coordinator Will Muschamp. Graceson Littleton, Xavier Filsaime, Warren Roberson, Kade Phillips, Kobe Black, Derek Williams, and Jelani McDonald all have experience. The additions of Nick Hudson (Brown), Bo Mascoe (Rutgers), and several true freshmen bring a lot to the table.
Both kicking and punting roles will belong to transfers. Kicking duties will belong to Memphis transfer Gianni Spetic. Punting duties will belong to Florida State transfer Mac Chiumento. Ryan Niblett is the nation’s best punt returner. He had two scores last season in big-time moments.
Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisisan have gone all in on this team. The transfers seen to be top notch and money well spent. Arch Manning could be very scary at quarterback. The schedule is daunting, but this team was built for this moment.
